September Newsletter

Hello September!

As the summer comes to a close, we are excited to celebrate our one-year anniversary in our new shop.  It has been a year of growth and training at the-sew-op.  I am reducing my teaching load in order to plan new and exciting classes and research more products for the shop.  Please let me know if you’d like to see us teach any particular courses or have products that you wish we could carry.

Our staff has grown and we are excited to welcome Liz Karp, Lily Bell and Leslie Lowenstein back to the-sew-op.  Liz will again be teaching our Adult Beginners in the evening, Lily will be teaching Guided Sew and private lessons on Friday and Leslie will be introducing Improv Quilting on Sundays.  Kate is travelling for Sept/Oct. but will return in the evenings for our fall 2 session.  Jane will be teaching Guided Sew and private lessons on Monday and “Tuesday Tips” workshops.  She is also teaching Fitting the Basic Sheath Dress in Fall 2 for those of you who are interested in learning more about how to adapt patterns.  Meg will be joining our teaching staff on Mondays, teaching Teen & Kid Sew.  On Fridays she will be teaching a variety of creative workshops.  Susan will be back on Tuesdays teaching Adult and Teen Beginners, as well as coordinating our Sewing for a Cause program on Wednesday mornings.  Suzanne will be teaching Guided Sew on Wednesday as well as Teen Sew and Adult Sew on Thursday evenings. Barbara will be teaching Teen Sew and Kid Beginner on Wednesday as well as Adult Beginner on Saturday morning.  Now that Donna has retired, she will be adding Tuesday evening Block of the month & Thursday morning quilting.  She will continue with her Saturday afternoon quilting classes.  She has many options for the beginner/intermediate quilters!  Gretchen joins us from the Master Seamstress program and will be teaching our Adult Sew on Thursdays.  We look forward to her teaching more classes in the future!  Sundays are reserved for special workshops like EQ8 with Pat Harrison, Improv Quilting with Leslie and Machine Quilting with Tina Craig.

Starting Sept. 6, shop hours will resume to our Fall schedule, M-F, 11am-5pm and Saturday 12-5pm.  We will be closed on Sundays.

As Labor Day approaches we cannot help but think of the many individuals who make our clothes.  Most of what we wear is produced off shore but there is a big push to bring manufacturing back to the USA.  That being said, there is a bill being presented in the Senate to assure the working conditions of garment workers in the USA.  Please think about signing the petition in support of this important bill.  You can find out more information about The Fabric Act here.  https://thefabricact.org/

As the cool weather approaches it’s a great time to think about holiday gift giving.  Some of our workshops make wonderful gifts!  The holidays will be here before you know it so it’s better to prepare early.  We wish you all well and look forward to seeing you soon!

Suzanne
